Root Canal Therapy

If you've ever had a toothache, you know that it quickly becomes a priority to get the pain resolved. The best way to care for a toothache when your tooth is dying or has died is to save your tooth with a root canal. While not all teeth can be saved, most can. If you're not sure, just give us a call at 435.753.4400 and set up an appointment - we're happy to help.

So now you know your tooth needs a root canal to be saved, but what is a root canal? As you can see in the image below, sometimes teeth get infected due to a cavity that goes really deep. When that happens, we'll open up your tooth to remove the nerve and fill in the space with a rubber-like substance that will be sealed in the tooth to prevent reinfection. We'll then recommend a permanent restoration, often a crown, to restore the tooth and preserve it against fracture.

How successful are root canals, you wonder. Peer-reviewed studies show root canals to be between 90 and 98 percent successful, depending on the study you look at. Do you know of any other medical treatment you get with that high of success rates? If your tooth is a good candidate for a root canal, you are far better off saving it than the alternative.
